I recently received a film released on a real VMD. This means I can now comment on video quality as well as do more detailed investigations to discover things like true video bitrate and the maximum capacity of a disk.

Q) Have you tried playing VMD files in VLC?
A) VLC WILL NOT PLAY VMD FILES – VMD FILES WILL CAUSE VLC TO STOP.

Since making the video, I've looked at the VMD files in software called MediaInfo and here are the results.
Slevin lucky number
MPEG2 variable bit rate 13.4 Mb/s
1920 x 1080 Interlaced 16:9 25 fps
So it's the same as the bit rate I calculated manually.
In comparison, the sharper Lazy Town disc achieves these results.
MPEG2 constant bit rate 21.5 Mb/s
1920 x 1080 Interlaced 16:9 25 fps
So what does this tell us that I haven't already covered in the video?
Well, if MediaInfo reports this correctly, the movie's codec is MPEG2 not VC-1 and the resolution is also 1080i.
